My husband and I host a Halloween party every year, so it’s almost a given that we dress in theme. Here are a few that we did:
Jack and Jill- I had a bucket and he wore a broken crown.
70′s Pimp and Hoe
Dorothy and the Scarecrow- Just get old clothes and hay for the Scarecrow and a dress for Dorothy (blue)
A policewoman and a prisoner
A doctor and a bloody patient
A king and a queen
Mother nature and father time
We’ve done others I cant remember. Most were inexpensive. I cant see paying a bunch of money for something that we’ll only wear one time. Good luck and have fun.
Why not do something creative that the two of you can design yourself? Like the King and Queen of Diamonds (the card suits, not the stones), Light and Dark – where you each pick something that captures the feel of these two ideas but compliment one another – or maybe something like your own versions of Ken and Barbie? If you’ve got an old suit and an old prom gown, put those on and draw some wicked bruises on your face and you could be “Zombie Ken and Barbie”.
Another idea that’s sort of based on this last premise would be to take a familiar couple like Marc Antony and Cleopatra, Superman and Lois Lane, and give them your own spin. Modernize Antony/Cleopatra or put Superman and Lois back in the 50′s. Take a Superhero like Batman and add some ancient Japanese flair to him.
Comic books, movie magazines (or websites – especially vintage sites) and theatre costume books (from your library or local university theatre) can also help with these ideas. Inspiration can come from anywhere! Even nature – maybe a flower and a bee (and let HIM be the flower!) or the sun and moon?
